COVID-19 cases confirmed at two PWPSD schools

Grande Prairie, AB – Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD) is providing the following daily summary report of COVID-19 cases in schools for Friday, April 23, 2021. The affected schools have sent letters to their families.

Out of respect for the individuals who tested positive for COVID-19, and in accordance with AHS guidelines, no further information will be shared about the cases. PWPSD and the affected schools wish the individuals a safe and speedy recovery, and will continue to work closely with AHS to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect all students and staff. Remote learning opportunities will be provided to isolating students. The affected schools have been disinfected. AHS is expected to provide all close contacts with further direction on testing and isolation instructions.

 

Case report for Friday, April 23, 2021:

  • A case at Spirit River Regional Academy. The case was last in school on Monday, April 19. Close contacts will isolate until Tuesday, May 4.

    • Spirit River Regional Academy is extending the period of remote learning for Grades 7-12 students: Due to number of isolating staff and students, and a lack of available substitute teachers, the at-home remote learning plan for all Grades 7-12 students has been extended. Students will now return to in-person learning on Wednesday, April 28.


  • A case at Peace Wapiti Academy. The case was last in school on Thursday, April 15. Close contacts will isolate until Thursday, April 29 (close contact on April 14) or Friday, April 30 (close contact on April 15).
    • Peace Wapiti Academy Grade 10 students on remote learning, April 26-29: Due to the number of isolating staff and the lack of available substitute teachers, all Grade 10 students will participate in at-home remote learning during Monday - Thursday, April 26-29. There will be no in-school or at-home remote learning on Friday, April 30 due to the scheduled Professional Development Day for school staff. Grade 10 students will return to in-school learning on Monday, May 3. Grades 9, 11 and 12 students who have not been identified as close contacts can return to school on Monday, April 26.
