The students at Harry Balfour School have another reason to love their new school. Thanks to an overwhelming amount of support from local businesses and residents, a new outdoor skating rink has become a reality.
The school would like to thank ARC Resources for purchasing the rink, Five Mile Hall Agricultural Society for graciously allowing the school to use its land for the ice surface, and the County of Grande Prairie for its support and encouragement to have it built.
Harry Balfour School also thanks High Torque Trucking, Dynamic Energy, In-line Drilling, Avenge Energy, Brogan Safety, and Power Plus Hockey for helping with setup, and donating water and wood, which was used by the Peace Wapiti Academy construction class to build benches for the rink.
Mrs. Buck, Harry Balfour School Assistant Principal, says she was overjoyed with the amount of community support the school has received. “When Mrs. Small came to me and said she was looking into creating a skating rink, I had no idea that so many businesses, organizations, and individuals would be so willing to step up to make a difference in our community.” She adds that the entire school community is grateful to Mrs. Small for her amazing idea and gung-ho attitude to bring it to life.
The ice rink will be used for physical education classes and enjoyed by community members for years to come.
